The Incompetent Liar

No one is perfect. And we do not expect perfection. After all, “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” [Voltaire] We are prepared to accept less than perfection if a political candidate has other properties and skills that we admire.

I have written on this topic before [On Lying].

Let us consider for a moment the idea that all lying is a mortal sin and must be rejected in all situations as immoral. Must we tell our 2-year-old daughter that she cannot possibly grow up to marry her daddy? Need we be brutally honest when we tell our wife that the dress does in fact make her behind look big? Not if we wish to survive. So we accept that some lies are necessary for domestic peace.

And cause no injury. This is the critical test. Does the lie cause injury or conceal responsibility?

But how do we conduct our affairs after we recognize that every statement of another is a lie? We came to recognize that the Communists would always lie; it was a hallmark of the old Soviet Union and meant that nothing the USSR leadership ever said was true. “Trust but verify.” [Ronald Reagan]

We have come to accept that politicians will lie and we also accept that we cannot rely on anything that they promise. We take a chance when we elect any politician on a promise. Once the truth becomes apparent, we then must work to defeat him/her if the missed promises become revealed as black lies.

What is to be said of an incompetent liar? In fact, what is incompetent lying?

Perhaps incompetent lying is telling a provable lie of great importance and then the liar marches on by as if nothing has happened. Disparaging the listener for the audacity of objecting to the lie. Vehemently asserting that the lie is true even when it has been discredited. “Fake but accurate” [Dan Rather reporting on George Bush’s military service]

Intent to deceive is also a metric for whether a statement is an innocent misstatement or actually a deliberate lie. We watch for weasel words about “evolving” or “growing” instead of an honest “I was wrong”. Thus the intent to deceive is revealed and does not require an admission by the liar.

We can evaluate truthfulness by how much is attempted to be concealed in plain sight.

We can evaluate truthfulness by how great the risk is that the lie creates danger.

Let’s try a few tests:

• “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” [Bill Clinton]
o Truthfulness = 0% Damage to the Nation = low

• “I am not a crook.” [Richard Nixon]
o Truthfulness = 0% Damage to the Nation = moderate

• “We seek no wider war.” [Lyndon Johnson]
o Truthfulness = 0% Damage to the Nation = high

• “That depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is.” [Bill Clinton]
o Truthfulness = 0% Damage to the Nation = moderate

• “If you like your plan, you can keep it” [Barack Obama]
o Truthfulness = 0% Damage to the Nation = high

Kudos to Dick Morris for the following partial Hillary collection:

— I didn’t know about the pardons of members of the FALN. [violent Puerto Rico nationalist group].

— I didn’t know that my brothers were being paid to arrange the pardons that Bill granted.

— Taking the White House gifts was a clerical error.

— I didn’t know that my staff would fire the travel office staff. [after she told them to do so].

— I opposed NAFTA at the time.

— I was instrumental in the Irish peace process.

— I urged Bill to intervene in Rwanda.

— I played a role in the ’90s economic recovery.

— The Rose Law Firm billing records showed up [in the White House family residence] on their own.

— I thought Bill was innocent when the Monica scandal broke.

— I was always a Yankees fan.

— I negotiated for the release of refugees in Macedonia [who were released the day before she arrived there].

Incompetent liar. adj. phrase 1) referring to a person who is not able to manage his/her affairs due to mental deficiency (lack of I.Q., deterioration, illness or psychosis) or sometimes physical disability. All these factors appear to be involved with Hillary’s lying behavior.

…Hillary went to Yale law school after which she moved to Washington, D.C. to take a job with the House Judiciary Committee investigating Watergate. She was fired from her job and from that point on distinguished herself as a public master of mendacity. [American Thinker, September 15, 2013]

Don’t just take my word for it. Read the comments of Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat. Zeifman supervised the Committee work of the 27-year-old, fired her, and has explained why:

“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

So, the jury is in and the verdict is clear. Hillary is an incompetent liar by any measure, revealed and reviled across the political spectrum.

The noted science fiction writer Philip K. Dick once declared that “Reality is what continues to exist whether you believe in it or not.”

Do we really need (and can we afford) further service of the smartest woman in the room?

I think not.

How did you go bankrupt?“                                                                                    “Two ways. Gradually then suddenly.” [Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises]

According to the US Department of Labor a 1950 dollar is now worth $0.119. That’s 11.9 cents, for a purchasing power decline of 88%. That’s one reason why the Woolworth 5 and 10 cent stores went out of business.  Symbolically and practically, the dollar store has replaced Woolworth.

Bankruptcy is not just monetary. There are also political, military and moral bankruptcies. And they all follow the same arc.

“The conditions are very much like 1914,” says Michael Stephens of the Royal United Service Institute in London. “All it will take is one little spark, and Iran and Saudi Arabia will go at each other, believing they are fighting a defensive war.” [McClatchyDC]

“It’s completely standard,” said Rebecca Berg, a politics reporter for RealClearPolitics. “Every journalist I know is being pitched opposition research from both sides — some useful, some not. [Washington Examiner]

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said it’s a challenge to find hirable blacks because so many African-American men have been arrested.  “We have a significant population gap among African-American males because so many of them have spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them,” [New York Daily News]

Personal observation: Thirty years ago when I was doing business in the U.K., it never occurred to me that the influx of “south Asians” [AKA Muslims] could change the demographics of a 1,000-year-old society.  But it has.  Mohammad is now the most common new-born boy’s name in the U.K.

So what underlies Hemingway’s astute insight of ‘suddenly’?

The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference” [Malcolm Gladwell, 2000].  The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire.

Sinking ships generally do not immediately plunge to the bottom. Rather, they slowly settle deeper into the water, remaining upright as they fill with water. At some point stability is compromised. They then suddenly capsize; the final plunge starts and ends quickly.

There is another not-so-obvious aspect of tipping over. It cannot be reversed even with societal upheaval.  Permanent change has occurred and the new world will still include effects of the now-defeated policies.

This is why Obama and the Congress are in such a rush to enact unpopular legislation.

Unwinding the ObamaCare laws will not restore the status quo ante of healthcare.  Permanent change has occurred. New costs, new bureaucracies once created do not simply disappear.  They must be forcibly dissolved.

Electing a conservative President will not immediately correct decades of Progressive infiltration in Government.  Several election cycles will be required to make changes, all the changes being covertly undermined and resisted by Progressive bureaucrats. These people will not just ‘go away’.  They must be forcibly retired.

Defeating RINO legislators in 2016 will not create an immediate Congressional alignment with the expressed wishes of the voters. Since we KNOW that many legislators are liars (see my earlier post On Lying), these lying treasonous b*stards will have to be rooted out election-after-election.  Long process.

What to do, what to do?

First, do not give up hope, and do not accept defeat.

Remain courageous and realize that this Republic is populated by conservatives who care for freedom and who want it defended and preserved.

Do not be persuaded that the 11% of blacks and the approximately 2 – 4% LGBTQWERTYUIOPs in the American population will overturn the Republic in one election cycle. There are not enough of them and they do not care enough to exert consistent effort. Small minds wander.

The apparent loudness of these voices is an illusion fostered by the mega-noisy micro-minorities in order to gain government mandated gimmie-dats which cannot be won at the ballot box.

The Least Significant Mewdia© runs overblown stories as a ploy to sell advertising and preserve their sinecure for one more year. Remember that Time magazine has shrunk to a shadow of its former self and Newsweek (2010) has been sold for $1 to new owners.  This would not have happened if they had reported real news instead of lies.

What value?  What credibility?  None.

So what is our strategy? Take a page from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

Do not quietly submit just to be civil.  Your opponents are not civil.

Be in their face and refuse to be talked-over, talked-down-to or shouted down.

The future for your children depends on your courage right now.

Do not fail them.
